TIE

The TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) is the physical card issued to non-EU citizens who have been authorised to stay in Spain for more than six months. It proves their legal status in the country.

  • The TIE includes the NIE number, a photo, and the type of visa or authorisation held in Spain.
  • The TIE must be applied for within one month of arrival in Spain or from the date the authorisation is granted or becomes effective, depending on the case.
  • The TIE does not grant legal status. It proves a status that has already been approved, such as a residence or long-term study authorisation.

How we handle your residence card (TIE)

  • Card type and fee check

We confirm the correct TIE procedure, card type and fee for your specific case before starting.

  • Application and document dossier

We prepare your EX-17 form, review all required supporting documents and prepare the official government fee. We also check the requirements of the Police Station where you will apply.

  • Fingerprint appointment (you attend in person)

We book your fingerprint appointment at the appropriate Police Station and tell you exactly what documents to bring and what to expect.

  • Card collection (you collect in person)

We notify you when your card is ready, tell you when and where to collect it and help arrange the TIE collection appointment when required.

  • Notifications and requests for additional documents

We stay with you throughout the process and help if the authorities request additional documentation or information.

Empadronamiento

The empadronamiento (padrón) is the official registration of your address in Spain. It must be completed at the Town Hall of the municipality where you live.

It is required to obtain your TIE and to access essential services and complete important administrative procedures, such as registering for public healthcare and using municipal services.

The TIE and the empadronamiento are separate and independent procedures, and each requires its own appointment. The time needed to complete both depends on appointment availability.

Address registration (empadronamiento) is included in the price of our TIE service. The empadronamiento is often required to access public services in your area, such as healthcare, transport cards, public sports facilities and education.

Also included in your service

  • Health insurance

If health insurance is required for your situation, we connect you with our insurance partners and help you arrange the appropriate coverage.

  • Spanish bank account

Through our banking partners, we support you in finding the right option and opening a Spanish bank account if needed.

What we need from you

  • Your passport.
  • Your approved visa or residence authorisation.
  • Your attendance at two appointments: fingerprints and collection of the card are personal by law. For the empadronamiento, whether your attendance is required depends on the Town Hall.
  • Your rental contract, deed or the owner's written authorisation.
  • The original and a copy of your health insurance policy, issued by an insurer authorised to operate in Spain.

Our job goes far beyond filling in forms. We make sure you attend the right appointments with the correct documents, the right fee paid and housing evidence accepted by your Town Hall — because these are the details that most often delay TIE and empadronamiento applications.
